Why We Love Waterfront Properties (And You Should, Too!)

2/24/2016

Properties on the water are often considered some the most desirable luxury homes for sale. They can come at a steep price, although there are some properties that provide high value that won't break the bank. Whether the price is a deciding factor or not, here are some of the reasons why we love waterfront homes.

Low-Stress Lifestyle

Waterfront homes are considered some of the best places to live in Massachusetts because they simply provide a less stressful environment. Whether it's the calm of the ocean or the beachfront atmosphere, life tends to be more laid-back and relaxed.

Water Wonderland

A waterfront property offers endless options to fill your days. Just steps away from your home, you have access to sailing, boating, fishing, kayaking, water-skiing, and so much more. There's also a sense of freedom. Whenever you want to go out on the water, your boat is hoisted and waiting for you.

Fun in Every Season

Many people imagine homes on the water only in the summer time, but waterfront luxury homes can be enjoyed all year long. Depending on how much risk you're comfortable taking, the winter offers ice skating, snowmobiling, a game of ice hockey, or you can drill a hole in the ice and drop in a rod.

Fresher Air

Air quality improves the closer you get to the water. There are exceptions to this rule, but generally it's true. Fresh air is one of the long-term health benefits to waterfront real estate.

The View

Nothing beats watching a sunrise or sunset over open water. Taking in the beauty of the water, beach and surrounding nature is one of the simplest and most spectacular aspects of owning a home on the water. It’s also reminiscent of vacations, which links back to the low-stress lifestyle waterfront properties offer.

Improved Fitness

A waterfront home is a great excuse to be more active. With so many things to do, living on the waterfront encourages walking, water sports, and other outdoor exercise that can improve that way we look and feel.

Return on Investment

A more practical reason to invest in homes on the water is the appreciation in property value. According to Zillow, “they just don’t make waterfront properties anymore. As a result, water frontage is very likely to boost a home’s value to some degree relative to non-waterfront homes.”

It's simple economics, supply is low and demand is typically high, so if you ever decide to sell your property the return on your investment will be well worth it.
From a campfire on a summer's evening to a roaring fire in the fireplace on a cold winter's night, waterfront property is an investment that pays many dividends. If you are looking for waterfront luxury homes in Plymouth, MA, check out our list of useful online resources:

These units I thought we were smaller and had availability on the 1st floor. Thus, cost is not appropriate for what I need. Let me know if you have any other ideas. I am selling a home in Boston but this may not be final for 9 months. Thus any future...projects I could get interested in with a real good offer could help me be an early candidate. Don't call unless it's really a good deal for me.

I learned a lot about waterfront properties by reading this article. It was interesting to learn that waterfront properties can help to create a less stressful environment. My parents are planning on retiring soon so I hope that sharing this article with my parents can help them to enjoy their retirement to the fullest.

You wrote that the closer you are to water, the better the air quality. My husband and I have been considering buying a waterfront property, and I thought an internet search could be informative. My brother has some asthma problems, so having access to that good air could be great for my brother. Thanks for the blog.

My favorite part of your article is when you said that living in a waterfront property will give you health benefits because the air is much fresher nearer the water. And it's great to know that it's a long-term kind of benefit. With my husband's condition, we might have to consider transferring to such a location. He has been diagnosed with a respiratory illness, and he would usually get attacks due to the air quality in the city. So I have to look for such properties to give my husband a comfortable living condition. Thanks!

Thanks for pointing out that air quality is generally better when you are closer to the water. My son has asthma, and we definitely need to move to a bigger house to prepare for our growing family. I would think that moving to a waterfront home will help my children enjoy fresher and healthier air.

My parents wanted to retire in a home near the sea and live a quiet life. It was discussed here that living in a waterfront guarantees a low-stress-lifestyle and fresher air. Furthermore, it's recommended to consult real estate professionals when considering acquiring waterfront condos.

That is really fascinating how the air quality improves the closer you get to the water. That would be really nice to have cleaner air on a beachfront property so that I could breathe better. Maybe I should look into getting a beachfront home when I have a family.

I suppose an oceanfront property is a good choice for my parents to stay in if it will help them lead a low-stress lifestyle, especially for their old age. Now, I am convinced to buy such a property for sale because the view is absolutely stunning there. Since it has a great return on investment as well, I'll look around for some real estate properties that sell it so my parents can retire in a good house.

My wife and I would like to have a place we can go with our kids every time they have a break from school to make some memories. We'll be sure to look further into our options for beachfront condos so that we can make memories all year-round.

I love that the air quality gets better when you get closer to the water because I suffer from asthma. My daughter does, too. Living somewhere there's good air makes being outside a lot more pleasant. I'll have to talk to my wife about getting a water front home.

Having fun every season when you have a waterfront home sounds amazing. Mainly because I could teach my kids how to swim and ice skate. Hopefully, the water we live by his a lake of some kind.
